Is Therapy Right For Me?

Welcome to Harmony Counseling Services Blog. You have likely taken the first step to seeking assistance. Many people have never met with a counselor or therapist, and may initially questions whether or not therapy is right for them. It's very normal to feel slightly anxious about the process of counseling or therapy. The idea of talking openly about your thoughts and feelings to an individual you have never met can be a bit anxiety provoking. So, how is one to know if therapy can help? Well, if you are feeling distress, confusion, uncertainty, anxiety, depression, despair, insecurity, loneliness, unworthiness, fear, agitation, or any other feeling, and you aren't able to resolve or overcome it on your own, then therapy may be right for you.

Therapy offers the opportunity to have a safe, nonjudgmental, professional environment to make sense of all that is going on in our lives. It allows us to face those aspects of ourselves that many of us spend innumerable hours trying to distract and avoid. Therapy allows us to explore our coping mechanisms that are causing more pain than they are benefiting. Therapy offers a place for your brain to experience new neuro-connections to create new behaviors and healthier patterns. Therapy offers us a place to explore our relationships, old and new, and understand ourselves in those relationships. Therapy is a safe place to examine and discard all of the insecurities we carry and act out in our lives, so that we can create a new way of viewing ourselves and our life story.
