Non-Dual Approaches to Psychotherapy- Vedanta Avaita
Non-Dual Approaches to Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy means many different things to people, yet from my perspective, it is my goal with clients to simplify as opposed to making complex.
This goal has successfully produced effective results in my practice. Often within the first half hour of working together the client has achieved a sense of relaxation and a quieting of the mind occurs which would have taken weeks by other therapy proto-calls.
This method achieves results much faster and is less expensive then traditional psychotherapy.
While most people tend to want to control their feelings, change their thoughts, even plan intricate schemes to run from them, my work is about welcoming the tendencies as they arise, along with recognizing their somatic component.
By combining a more intimate experience of acknowledging the truth of what is there, the client re-establishes moment by moment awareness. While the intensity of feelings & thoughts heighten initially, clients learn they do not have to do anything. They fully learn to experience what is there fully realizing that they are now ready to let go of content that would otherwise caused more pain, or completely repressed it,
The client now experiences a full quieting of the body mind complex offering a deeper sense of well being, wisdom & intuition already present.
Please understand our natural ability is to let go and release emotional content, this skill has only temporarily been covered up.
While Most people’s attention is spent on their thoughts, they discover it is only their tendency to seek & relieve emotional stuckness, or resistance. This is not a bad or good strategy. The underlying disposition is for relief. As the client learns to welcome these tendencies as opposed to running off and soothing them with ineffective addictions, they become less willing to buy into out worn strategies
The important point, is that there is nothing wrong or right about what an individual experiences. Yet the tendency to define, judge, and interpret emotional energy usually keeps the individual stuck in the duality of finding fault with themselves and developing beliefs that reflect self abuse and disapproval.
There is nothing wrong or right about reactive feelings, yet it is the relationship with them that is developed and cultivated in this work that makes this modality so in valuable.
As individuals recognize the thoughts that arise, they as well become familiar with the emotional and body mind complex consisting of sensations.
Welcoming and letting go of the interpretive meanings becomes a natural process to quiet and liberate the indiviual.
My approach to psychotherapy is to simplify & assist individuals to rediscover that which is already there & to re-establish a relationship that embraces, thoughts, feelings, sounds, sensations & pictures that are often referred to as phenonemena, from the Aware state that they are.
More often then not Individuals tend to believe they are their feelings & thoughts. This tendency often termed Identification, which tends to solidify a belief system that they are this or that.
Beliefs tend to be conceptualized and held in mind as well as somatized , as facts, yet when welcomed & let go of, they are seen as they really are, only concepts which used blind and bind them into taking actions which do not serve them and creating more agitation to complicate the matter.
Inner presence is timeless relaxation and is predicated on surrender, the letting of control and willingness to be without knowing.
Welcoming the truth that is there in an open way sets the stage to relinquish the illusion of control and to rest in not-knowing.
This work greatly assists in removing the negative connotations that seemed to have followed the mental health field and reconnect the individual with the Self of who they really are.
