Steve Hammil, MA, LMHC

Counselor/Therapist

I am particularly interested in working with people struggling with the effects of problematic learning experiences like abuse, neglect and loss. Often these experiences result in a toxic internal voice that allows no rest. Having struggled with this myself, I want to help others find peace.

Steve Hammil Practice Description

A widely accepted model for trauma work involves three phases - establishing safety and trust; resolving problematic experiences; and integrating and consolidating the changes into daily life. I use a gentle approach focused on living a meaningful, satisfying life that does not require intense revisiting of painful memories.

I also specialize in couples therapy. I often see trauma in the histories of one or both partners. Unresolved trauma can be a potent contributor to the couple's struggles. Depending on the situation, couples counseling can be highly effective in resolving traumatic experience - a shared experience unfolds that heals, deepens and strengthens the relationship.
