LearningRx Brain Training Center

I got involved in LearningRx after seeing the transformative results of cognitive skills training. I heard parents talk about their children no longer needing a remedial class, losing the "dyslexic" label, getting off stimulant medication for ADHD and developing increased confidence.

Tennessee in general, and Memphis more specifically, both deal with a lot of teen depression. Unfortunately, many times depression follows the teens into adulthood. In 2006, nearly 900 people in the state died as a result of suicide. In addition to this, there are about 1,400 children incarcerated in the area each year, and roughly 70 percent of these children deal with serious mental health problems. Along with depression and childhood mental illness, substance abuse and addiction are major concerns for those in Memphis. In fact, roughly 37 percent of adults age 18 to 25 have said that they binge drink regularly.

If you are dealing with mental health concerns, substance abuse, or you have a family member that needs help, it's important to take that first step. It's a difficult thing to admit that you need help, but that is what our community is here for. TherapyTribe will support you and help you find the right mental health professional for your specific needs and situation. With a breakdown of different specialties and expert bios, you can browse at your leisure and make the calls when you're comfortable.

When you call a Memphis area therapist or other mental health professional, make sure you ask a few questions before you set up your appointment. Find out if they accept your insurance, as not all therapists take every insurance type. In addition, ask about location and availability. Make sure you make an appointment with someone who is available when you are and who isn't too far away from you. These things can help you find someone you will be able to work with comfortably.

Before you go to your first appointment with a new therapist, make sure you have gone over a few things for yourself. What are you looking to achieve? Do you have specific goals that your therapist can help you with? Are there any things about a therapist that you are not comfortable with that may lead you to look for a different therapist? Going over these questions before you head to your appointment will help you feel more confident and ready to explore your needs. It is also a good idea to discuss these with your therapist at your first appointment.

When you're seeking out the professional help you need, you're making strides to live a happier, more fulfilling life. Whether you're seeking help for yourself or a loved one, finding a helpful mental health expert is the first step in overcoming whatever life throws your way.
