ARE THERAPIST DIRECTORY LISTINGS WORTHLESS? PRETTY MUCH.

I am a NYC Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).  I have a small private practice in Manhattan working with adults and adolescents individually. I have no particular specialty and treat a wide-range of presenting problems. My theoretical orientation is primarily cognitive-behavioral. I do not take insurance and am strictly private pay. My experiences may not reflect the experiences of other mental health professionals in different cities, states or countries. I will share the results I have experienced in joining a variety of online directory listing services and well as the use of social media. I will grade each listing service based on my experience and the number of clients I got with from each directory site.

Conclusions

Based on my experience as a part-time New York City Clinical Social Worker who is not on any insurance panels, therapist directory listings are mostly a waste of money and time. Similarly, social media appears to be of little to no value. These are my own personal experiences based on my own unique circumstances. They may or may not reflect the experiences of other therapists and counselors.
