My aim as a counselor is to walk with you on your journey towards healing and wholeness. My belief is that lasting personal healing and growth comes not primarily through a technique, medication or being told to put on the facade of a fake smile, but through relationships, community and a willingness to take the time to do meaningful personal work. My desire is to provide a place for you where you can experience being truly listened to and accepted as opposed to being judged. In this environment you can express and explore the difficulties and challenges of life.
My approach to counseling is positive and hopeful. I do not just want to know about your flaws and shortcomings. Many therapy approaches focus solely on the problem. Important, no doubt, but I also care about your strengths, your competencies, your passions, your resiliencies, your prayers, your faith!
I use an integrative approach that uses tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solutions Focused Brief Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and EMDR which is a cutting edge and research backed therapy approach for the treatment of trauma and painful memories. I am also willing to pray for you and encourage you on your spiritual journey with God.
As far as my background, I completed my Undergraduate degree in Psychology from Elon University. I then completed a three year Masters program in Professional Counseling from Liberty University which included a year long internship at Carmel Counseling Center in Charlotte. My specialties include Anxiety, Depression, Stress, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Addictions, Premarital Counseling, Martial Counseling, and Trauma work. I have received advanced training in EMDR for the treatment of trauma and painful memories as well as training and certification in Prepare-Enrich for couples.
Personally, I am happily married. I enjoy grilling outdoors, tennis, trail hike and teaching SundaySchool with the youth on Sunday.
