Elizabeth Denkins (Rice) Practice Description
Education I received my bachelor’s degrees in psychology and criminal justice from Chadron Sate College in 2014 and my master’s degree in counseling from Colorado Christian University in 2018. In addition to my education in school I have completed training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Motivational interviewing, Internal Family Systems, and Narrative therapy. Experience I have been working with those who have a variety of mental health problems since 2014. I worked in residential treatment and group homes where I learned a variety of different treatment approaches and worked with several different populations. The majority of those I have worked with have had trauma in their past and have had several different symptoms from it including PTSD, depression, anxiety, behavioral problems, substance use, ADHD, relationship problems and several others. I have spent the last two years in private practice as I found in mandated therapy my skills were not being used and to their full potential. I now enjoy working with clients who are ready to work in therapy and make life changes. Therapeutic approach Through my work and education I have learned several different ways to treat mental health problems. My primary modalities of treatment are IFS and EMDR. I see thoughts and behaviors as a way to protect oneself and I strive to help my client come to a place of self acceptance and leadership as apposed to internal conflict. Trauma can be a large contributor to why people go ro protective ways of thinking and behaving. The thinking and feelings caused from trauma often seems stuck as though we can think through it but not stop feeling it. I have found EMDR to be the most effective in helping move past trauma’s. EMDR is best know for treating trauma but has shown to be effective in relieving the symptoms of anxiety, panic attacks, depression, bipolar disorders, dissociative disorders, grief, personality disorders, sleep disturbance, and several others. Aside from EMDR and IFS I have an eclectic approach to therapy as I use treatments that fit each clients needs.
