You may look like you have it all together: the career, the family, the responsibilities. But inside, you feel like you’re barely holding on. Anxiety keeps you awake at night, burnout leaves you running on empty, and no matter how much you give, it never feels like enough. You say “yes” when you want to say “no,” and you carry the weight of cultural and family expectations so heavy it sometimes feels like you’ve lost yourself. I work with South Asian, immigrant, and BIPOC professionals who are exhausted from people-pleasing, perfectionism, and the constant push to perform. Many of my clients come to me feeling invisible, disconnected from their authentic selves, or trapped in cycles passed down through generations. Sometimes, they find it difficult to articulate the pain and just know that something needs to change. In therapy, we don’t just put a bandage on symptoms — we get to the root of your pain. I combine CBT, DBT, somatic practices, and IFS with a culturally sensitive lens, so you can untangle old patterns, set boundaries without guilt, and finally breathe again. Together, we’ll create a space where your voice matters, your story is honoured, and your healing feels possible.

Treatment Approach

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: My practice offers a safe, confidential space to slow down and finally put your healing first. Using an integrative, trauma-informed approach that blends CBT, DBT, somatic practices, and Internal Family Systems (IFS), I help clients move beyond surface-level coping. Together, we untangle the deeper patterns of perfectionism, self-doubt, and legacy burdens so that you can reconnect with your authentic self and begin to feel grounded again.

Gulrukh Khan, Empowering Roots Psychotherapy and Wellness Practice Description
At Empowering Roots, I specialize in supporting South Asian, immigrant, and BIPOC professionals who feel weighed down by cultural pressures, family obligations, and the unspoken expectation to “hold it all together.” Many of my clients are high-functioning women who look accomplished on the outside, but inside, they’re struggling with anxiety, burnout, people-pleasing, or the silent weight of intergenerational trauma. You may find yourself constantly putting others first, saying “yes” when you’re exhausted, or feeling guilty for even considering your own needs. Perhaps you feel disconnected from yourself, torn between honouring family values and wanting to live authentically. These struggles can leave you feeling invisible, stuck, and unsure of who you are outside of your roles and responsibilities. What sets Empowering Roots Psychotherapy and Wellness apart is our culturally responsive lens. I understand the unique challenges of navigating identity, belonging, and cultural expectations, and I honour both your roots and your growth. Here, your whole story matters, not just your pain, but also your resilience and strength. Therapy is where you get to put down what’s too heavy to carry alone, learn to set boundaries without guilt, and build the tools to live a life that actually feels like yours. Healing doesn’t mean letting go of your heritage; it means finding balance, wholeness, and peace within it. If you’re ready to stop surviving and start healing by doing the deeper inner wound healing, I am here to support you on that journey.
