Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
Approach Description: In the initial session, I gather background information of your concerns and we work to develop goals for treatment. It is a collaborative process, encouraging questions for understanding and empowering you to take control by customizing the skills to your own individual needs. I am trained in a variety of skill building techniques, that mix exploring a problem and practicing effective skills for those specific concerns.

Kayla Jarred Practice Description
With my training in a variety of skill building techniques, I help individuals become empowered and build resilience to stress, anxiety, anger, trauma, depression, and other experiences of distress. I specialize in creating adaptive and practical treatment goals, building understanding of your experiences of distress, and challenging you to practice new skills to help you build effective techniques for your specific concerns. Please, feel free to reach out via telephone or email and explore how I can help. Some short descriptions of the skill building techniques follow. Behavioral: Identify problematic patterns in reactions, behaviors, habits, etc. Develop and initiate concrete and practical goals to encourage change. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Dive deeper with these exercises, by exploring your values, meaning behind your thoughts/emotions, build a “here and now” mindset to alleviate pressure of your past, and build other practical skills to pursue a “life worth living.” Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Understand your brain, how it thinks, perceptions you have, and explore your history of how those patterns developed. Build effective techniques to address how your brain perceives stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, etc. Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT): A specific CBT based technique for PTSD, trauma related experiences, and other high stress experiences. Process how your brain views the harm you have experienced, and then learn to change those views to empower yourself to take your life back. For adults. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): A structured program to assist with intense emotional experiences, effectively managing distress, building strong/healthy relationships, and other aspects related to behavioral experiences of distress. Expand your views and effectively adapt to situations. Solution-Focused Brief Therapy: Focus is on skill building, identifying about 1-2 problems and addressing them via practical solutions. Can also be a great format for “short” sessions (e.g., 30 minutes).
