Natalie Criss (She/Her)

Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC, LPCC-S
 therapist: Natalie Criss,
Kentucky, West Virginia (Online Only)
Hi! I'm Natalie Criss. I started my own practice after working for a foster care agency and then for another private practice. During those years I worked with a variety of populations and really discovered my niche. Being a part of the LGBTQIA community gives me a great deal of compassion and insight into what that community struggles with, and I also have a passion for helping people heal from trauma. I am trained in EMDR and use it daily with my clients. I love doing telehealth because it allows both myself and the client to relax a bit more. After many years of in-person counseling I have found that my telehealth clients seem to make more progress, more quickly. Maybe that is because it's easier to open up when you are in the comfort of your own home or it's easier to schedule sessions more frequently when you don't have to come to the office. Who knows? But I love the ease and convenience of telehealth and I think you will too.

Treatment Approach

  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.

Natalie Criss Practice Description
Ashland Professional Counseling is open to all! We are based in Kentucky but also licensed in West Virginia. The practice includes myself, Natalie Criss, and Nikki Barr (Licensed Professional Counselor). We are currently working on changing the name to True Colors Counseling and doing a little rebranding. Sorry for any confusion. We are both seasoned counselors who have gained a lot of knowledge and training over the years and discovered our niches. We are a trauma-focused practice but also love working with anxiety disorders, depression, etc. We love what we do and would love to hear from you. When you email us you will get a response the same day (unless it is the weekend or a holiday). We are almost always accepting new clients and accept most major insurance companies, including Medicaid. We try to make therapy accessible to all.
