Marriage and Family Therapist

Folsom, CA | Cameron Park, CA (Offers Online Therapy)

I am a down to earth, non-judgmental, trauma informed therapist with a lot of love for the work I do. I practice therapy from a place that meets you where you are, client centered and strength based. I am a strong believer in finding what works specifically for you, and I welcome feedback so we can decide if what we are doing is effective and helpful. It is VERY important that you find a therapist that fits you. It is definitely okay to ask questions. Please do. I use a lot of what nature and art has to teach us in my approach. Many of my sessions are conducted outside in nature, on a walk, by the river, on paddle boards, or at the Crocker Art Museum ( when open) I am upbeat, casual AND yet very structured. I use humor at times, a gentle manner, and a collective "we" form of engaging my clients. It is vital to know we are all connected, not despite our differences, but rather due to our differences we are connected. I work to help you be "with" your challenges, to empower you, rather than seek perfection or elimination. My approach is very "dialectical" ( two parts that are very opposite can both be valid and true and exsist together within us and around us) and basically I am an eclectic therapist drawing from many resources and teachings depending on client need.

Nina, Strom ( Strom's Nomad Therapy) Practice Description

Strom's Nomad therapy is unique. Nomadic meaning mobile and moving- I do encourage clients to move, walk, stretch, whatever movement is possible. Movement is very healing and good for the mind. In many ways your therapist, IS the therapy. I flow and am flexible, and yet am grounded and rooted in various evidence based methodologies and believe in finding a structure that we can create for you to move through and with the challenges, transitions, or relational issies you face. We work by enhancing understanding for what is going on, finding tools to handle and manage more effectively and ultimately find a life worth living fully .
Prior to 2020 COVID Pandemic, my practice was fully nomadic, after contact and intake, I came to you, I'd meet at your house, or we would meet in a place I had scouted out and checked for meeting spots, parking, and not a lot of other people and we would conduct the sessions outside. Often times if you have a dog, they were more than welcome with us. Family sessions were done in the home. So everyone was involved in your wellness if that applied. We would walk, and talk- and get exercise, some fresh air, and some fresh perspectives. In the warmer months, I have two paddle boards and in Folsom sessions were held on the floating office space and on the water. Bilateral stimulation by walking, and or paddling, as well as the comfort of a furry friend is part of trauma treatment, but also in stimulating our psychoneuro pathways for new ideas, and clearing out the old ways that no longer serve us.
Since COVID, and closures, currently my practice is primarily telemed- Calls and video. Clients also have text support options, for reaching out in crisis, or for guidance in skills. Clients who struggle with self harm and or suicidal ideation can find in the moment support wich can often eliminate unnecessary hospital stays.

Mental health and wellness is a right we all deserve to have- even if we don't know what that looks like or how to go about it. We have to start here and now, and where we are. Take the adventure. Make it yours.
