My goal is to help you live the best possible life that you can by coping well with the parts of your life you can’t change, effectively changing the parts that you can, and—with optimal awareness and insight—knowing the difference so that your efforts are devoted in the most effective ways.
I believe that all people have value and worth, no matter who you are. I believe that, just as a plant will flourish if giving the proper conditions—sunlight, water, nutrients—so also every person will flourish when they receive the necessary and sufficient conditions for psychological well-being which include genuine understanding, care, and acceptance.
Here are some of my main areas of specialty:
PURPOSE, EXISTENTIAL, & SPIRITUAL DIRECTION-
I'm passionate about helping people find their authentic selves and live out their intentional and self-chosen purpose. I love getting to know people and finding their strengths, passions, dreams, and genuine values; helping them overcome any barriers to becoming their authentic selves. It's about living a life deliberately according to your own values. It's about living authentically.
ANXIETY & STRESS-
Life can be stressful. Our natural reactions to an environment which is perceived as unsafe is anxiety. Is your world unsafe? Or do your natural reactions cause you to overestimate the danger in the world? Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy is an evidence-based approach which has been shown to be just as helpful (or more) than medications. Learn some skills which you can use for the rest of your life to gain better control over your anxiety.
Depression can be debilitating: feeling you have no worth, lacking the energy to get things done, not enjoying activities you used to enjoy, and even physiological changes. Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) has been proven to be effective in helping people who are depressed change their unhelpful thinking as well as make positive changes to their environment and activities of daily life.
Most relationships and marriages begin wonderfully! Unfortunately, many gradually decline. It does not have to be this way--there are methods and tools which can be learned and used which can help couples develop stronger friendships, resolve conflicts through understanding each partners dreams beneath the conflict, and eventually, develop meaningful and mutually authentic shared meaning. I use the Gottman Method for couples therapy which is evidence-based.
Are you a man who struggles with anger, violence, and self-control? Depression from not being able to live up to societal or family pressures? Difficulty making ends meet? Mens health issues? Porn or sex addictions? Fatherhood and relationship difficulties? Have you been raised to believe that expressing emotions and vulnerabilities is weakness? Perhaps you need someone who can really get you and come alongside you through this struggle; finding something worthwhile on the other side.
The question is not why the addiction, but why the pain (Dr. Gabor Mate). Addictions can be difficult to overcome because it both causes problems AND medicates the pain of life in the short-term. Also, there is great stigma from society around addiction--so many have said, Why dont you just stop using? Motivational interviewing, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Relapse-Prevention techniques can be very helpful in supporting people through recovery rather than shaming them towards quitting a substance without dealing with whatever is underlying the addiction.
