Death, divorce, separation and deployment are just a few of the unexpected losses that can have a major impact in life. Loneliness, anger, sadness, confusion, depression, anxiety and even frustration are not uncommon feelings.
In your child, you may notice changes in appetite, behavior at school or home, lack of interest in the things that used bring about happiness. You want to help your child so that this loss, this change, won't negatively impact their future and future relationships. At this point, you're not sure what to say or do. I can help.
I have over 11 years experience working with children and their families as they move through challenging life transitions. I use a short term therapy approach with both children and adults. For children, I use play therapy to tap into the creative subconscious and to help children mourn the loss, and integrate the loss into their life story and trajectory in a healthy way. For adults, I use a strength based approach and assist in the process of mourning and processing the loss.
In addition to individual therapy, I run two groups for teens. The first group is for teens who's parents are separated or divorced and the second group is for teens who have experienced the death of a significant person in their lives.
For Virginia adult residents, I am also able to provide tele-health, and sessions can be 30-60 minutes.
I also offer limited weekend and evening sessions.
