I am a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist trained in Psychodynamic Counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), I am also a Registered member of BACP (MBACP) and I abide by their ethical code.
I practice across a wide range of issues and have specialist experience of working with people with a wide range of anxieties such as social anxiety or generalised anxiety disorder, depression, bullying or psychological abuse, relationships issues, perfectionism, low self -esteem. I have also particular experience with bereavement and young adult issues in the workplace and at the university.
I am emphatic, warm and dynamic with a special interest in compassion. I offer a non-judgemental, safe and open space where you can talk and be listened.
Counselling proved effective in improving lives of people going through a tough time experiencing depression, extreme shyness, relationship issues, stress at work or in their studies, life crisis, low mood, anxieties, family issues, low self-esteem.
My way of working is collaborative, which means that we will decide together which approach is best for you: a more explorative attitude towards your past (Psychodynamic Counselling) or a more active one focussed on the present (CBT). We will do this at your pace, keeping into account also the practicalities of your life, your preferences and goals of therapy. Together we will create greater awareness about your behaviours and achieve a better, fulfilling life.
We will also decide whether a time-limited approach (6-12-18 sessions) would work better for you or a more open approach.
The first appointment
During the first appointment, we will explore your reasons for coming to counselling together with your goals, expectations and hopes for therapy. This is also an important opportunity to get to know each other and for you to think about whether you wish to work with me.
I always allow some good time to reflect together whether you feel comfortable enough to work together. Indeed, choosing your therapist is a very important step, whatever the therapy, our relationship is estimated to be the predictor of a good outcome from therapy.
I usually allow one or two meetings to decide together whether you are happy to work with me, how we will work and how long.
