Body image can have an immense impact on your sense of self-worth and your place in the world. In therapy, I provide a compassionate and supportive environment to help you explore the underlying issues affecting your perception of your bodies. We work together to examine your beliefs and feelings about the way you appear, with the ultimate goal of self-acceptance. My approach includes exploring the influence of societal pressures and standards as well as past experiences.
Body image issues form a large part of issues faced by women and are often thrust upon us by the patriarchy through rampant sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. Kate understands the depths of these causes and helps from this deep point of understanding.
Body image is a combination of the thoughts and feelings that you have about your body. Body image may range between positive and negative experiences, and one person may feel at different times positive or negative or a combination of both. As body image is influenced by internal (e.g. personality) and external (e.g. social environment) factors we work with the client to develop a balanced view of body image and it's impact.
