Valencia, California therapist: TREATMENT AND TOOLS FOR TRAUMA, licensed psychoanalyst
Serving Black / African American

TREATMENT AND TOOLS FOR TRAUMA

Licensed Psychoanalyst, PH.D., IN PSYCHOANALYSIS AND NEUROSCIENCE, CERTIFIED PSYCHOANALYST, PSY.A, & LICENSED PSYCHOANALYST
My background is in both psychoanalysis and neuroscience (doctorate) and I am also a Certified and Licensed Psychoanalyst. So I am able to bring both a background in research into mind/brain issues, and I am trained as a clinician. I have been working with trauma for many years, and most recently (2016) I have been working with traumatic brain injury patients (including professional athletes). I am grateful for my dual background in mind/brain, because all brain injured patients require both perspectives. In August of 2023 I published "The Complex Architecture and Healing of Traumatic Brain Injuries: Listening to The Brain" with Cambridge Scholars Publishing in the UK. This is the story (based on case histories) of the journey to find a "healing road" for all persons who have had serious disruptions in brain functioning. This is very, very challenging territory to work in. And in my experience, requires a great collaboration between doctor and patient. I am also the author of "Moon Over Seaville," the story of the hunt for a serial arsonist in Southern California (in 4 Episodes). Available everywhere under "Mystery/Thrillers." I have patients all across the country (via phone). Brain injuries can be healed!

Los Angeles, California therapist: Ricardo Peña, licensed clinical social worker
Serving Black / African American

Ricardo Peña

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW
I provide services in Spanish + English. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist of Mesoamerica-Indigienous ancestry. My life exposed to community violence, trauma and intersecting oppressions has led me to the work of healing, self-discovery, exploration and ancestral healing. I was raised in the SF Bay Area and I currently reside on the stolen lands of the Tongva peoples, colonially known as Los Angeles, California. My lived experiences of being a person of color with intersecting identities, navigating the world and the trauma that comes with that, has led me to the practice of healing at a young age. I grew up with many years of witnessing (through family members + my community) severe mental illness, addiction, community violence, chronic suicidality, incarceration and domestic violence. Through my own stories and experiences, as a justice-oriented therapist, I aim to disrupt and dismantle these oppressive systems within myself and in my practice to make therapy a safe(r) space for folks who are targeted and made marginalized.
