Simply Being Therapy
Counselor/Therapist
At Simply Being our therapists join with you to help facilitate healing and connection. As a holistic therapeutic practice, we help you to recognize and accept your psychological and neurophysiological responses to stressors and all forms of trauma, in order for you to build capacity to hold and resolve your pain.
Our therapists are experts at treating trauma, anxiety, depression, chronic stress and more. We incorporate knowledge of the brain and body, using both “talk” therapy and somatic approaches. Our therapists are trained in Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, parts-work, depth psychology, mindfulness practices and other forms of proven trauma treatments.

Licensed Mental Health Counselor, LMHC
Sometimes, we all need a little perspective. When you are overwhelmed with pain, sadness, and/or anxiety, it can feel impossible to move forward. Having someone in your corner who can help motivate and support you throughout the change process can make all the difference.
I know taking the first step to find a therapist isn't easy and I don't take that show of strength lightly! With my (attempted) sense of humor and respect for my clients, I hope to create a warm place for you to accept yourself for exactly who you are right now, and then find ways to change your life that makes it more reflective of your best self.

David A. Heilman
Psychologist, Psy.D.
When deciding to see a therapist, it can be extremely challenging to choose someone to work with. I hope to be there with you in therapy as you work to discover new levels self-understanding, compassion, and insight. Most individuals decide to start therapy after encountering emotional distress that has left them overwhelmed, and as though they have lost control of their life. I work collaboratively with my clients to find ways in which they are able to regain a sense of control, empowerment, and purpose in their lives.
Important to our work will be the concept that our relationship, and the exploration of that relationship, will help you make discoveries about other important relationships in your life. Although this work can be challenging at times, it can lead to improvements in your social interactions, mood, and anxiety.
While I have enjoyed working with a wide variety of individuals, I specialize in LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapy, ADHD, anxiety, depression, chronic shame, couples/relationship challenges, and non-traditional relationships. I am currently seeing new clients in my Dupont Circle office, and I look forward to answering any of your questions.

Norma J. Perez
Psychologist, PhD
I'm not your ordinary therapist. I have 24 + years of experience as a therapist, plus I have the life experience of a wife of 43 years, mother of two, and grandmother of four. I am the therapist that people come in and say, "Wow, you helped me more in one session than I got out of years with several other therapists." I am fun, direct, empathetic, but direct so that you can have the results you are looking for in a short amount of time. I love what I do, so it's not work to me. I'm very interactive in sessions so there won't be many times where I just sit there and don't provide feedback. I'm the type of therapist that will call you out on your stuff so I can help you meet your goals and have better relationships with others. I love talking with potential clients to see if I'm a good fit. After a phone call with me you will be able to get a sense if I'm a good fit for you. Please give me a call and let's chat!
