Peace in Mind Counseling

Marriage and Family Therapist, MS, MFT
I tell a lot of my clients, "it is never about the thing". What this means is that there is always a deeper meaning behind what you struggle with. It is never just about the, burnt toast, dishes in the sink, or getting stuck in traffic. My goal with you is to get to the underlying issue of the stress, anxiety, and depression and more often than not, it is about unresolved trauma. My favorite question word is, "why?" so this is what I'll try to find for you--the reason--so we can prioritize outcomes. I want to see you thrive, so I prefer you come into therapy ready to work hard to attack the problem.

In our therapeutic journey together, my approach is grounded in an understanding of the impact of trauma, recognizing that our struggles always exist in the context of our environments and histories. I weave mindfulness and positive psychology into our sessions, aiming not just for 'okay,' but for a life that feels truly meaningful and fulfilling. Trained in EMDR, ACT, CBT, and clinical hypnosis, I bring a diverse toolkit to tailor our sessions to your unique needs. I see our time together as a collaborative space, where your feedback and active participation shape the path to your well-being. There's no one-size-fits-all in therapy—I believe in finding the approach that resonates best with you and addresses your specific concerns. Do you constantly feel like you're never good enough? Do you feel like you compare yourself to other people and think they're so much better looking or smarter than you? Do you feel like you have to wear a mask and pretend you're someone you're not just to get people to like you, not leave you, or reject you? If you said 'yes' to any or all of these questions, you've come to the right place. These are common signs of perfectionism and people-pleasing, my specialty! If you're ready to roll up your sleeves and put in the work to find and use your voice to share your opinions and needs, feel safe being vulnerable to deepen your emotional connections, and learn how to compassionately hold yourself accountable when you make a mistake, this CAN be your reality with the scientifically based tools you'll learn working with me as your guide. To learn more about working together, reach out by sending me a message through my profile on here. I'm excited to hear from you!

I love helping my clients address issues with sleep, anxiety, mood, and past traumatic experiences. For me, helping others as a psychologist is a true passion. When appropriate, I use evidence-based therapy, which has clinical research supporting its effectiveness. I routinely offer couples and grief counseling. I've been told by my clients that I clearly take my job seriously and prepare well for sessions, always eager to bring them the relief that they're seeking in a thoughtful and targeted way. I don't stretch treatment out any longer than needed. As far as my unique characteristics as a therapist, I believe that humor plays an important role in treatment, and that therapists who are willing to be self-disclosing and genuine develop stronger, more meaningful connections with their clients. I see therapy as a very personal process -- far more so than other types of health visits -- and that forming a real relationship is a key component of mental health treatment. I find that one definite benefit of such a relationship is that I'm able to offer my clients truthful, direct feedback, as they always know that any challenging remarks are coming from a caring and compassionate place. Along these lines, I belief that it's a therapist's job to routinely encourage their clients to push beyond their comfort zones and make bold changes.
