TREATMENT AND TOOLS FOR TRAUMA
Licensed Psychoanalyst, PH.D., IN PSYCHOANALYSIS AND NEUROSCIENCE, CERTIFIED PSYCHOANALYST, PSY.A, & LICENSED PSYCHOANALYST
I understand Depression and Depressive Disorders (including Psychotic Depression) as the result of loss. It is the mind/body's response to a normal but difficult aspect of all of our lives. Things get depressed and depressing when we all experience loss. This can be any kind of loss: relationships, family, work, dreams, friendships, school achievements, and/or something special to us. At times Depression can overwhelm any of us. I treat Depression and Depressive Disorders with both mind and body: analysis one or twice per week, supplements for the brain, diet and exercise, and the creation of "flow experiences" for the patient. Connection, attachment, and trust are very important here in the therapeutic relationship as part of the healing process. You are welcome to call my office at 661-478-0667 for an evaluation.

Have you ever felt as if you had a mental block? This block prevents you from moving forward, thinking about something else and most of all changing your emotions. When someone gets in a negative downward spiral and find it very difficult to get out of it is probably because you don’t know how to. This might sound crazy, but most people who suffer with anxiety and depression start out in this same mental state that I just described. As a california marriage and family therapist and professor, I teach psychotherapists how to help clients who are in this exact mental state. There’s a cognitive behavioral therapeutic approach known as CBT that touches on something called distortions. The best way that I can explain the distortions is by having you think of those disgusting negative messages that replays in your head. This message often makes you feel horrible, worthless, stuck and like there’s no point. CBT allows you to take back control of those distortions in order to help you change your mindset to reduce or get rid of that anxiety. Feel free to schedule a session with me to see if I will be a good fit for you.

Depression is normal. We all get depressed. It's our body's way of saying something is wrong. We're either living with something that no longer serves us, or we're yearning for something that has been missing. For a long time now, the psychology and psychiatric communities have treated depression as something to get rid of, something to treat. And while nobody wants to be depressed, efforts to get rid of it, or diminish its symptoms, tend to make things worse. Luckily, there are new and much more effective ways to work with depression. Therapies that include the body (somatic psychology), mindfulness (MBSR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), and neuro-science have a much better success rate in treating depression. When we approach depression as a messenger and listen to what it is telling us, it tends to go away! So, what is your depression telling you? What is in your life that shouldn't be? What is missing? For over 25 years I have been helping my clients overcome depression blending the best from the worlds of somatic psychology, mindfulness, and neuroscience.

Do you feel like there is a dark cloud over you? Maybe you've tried to talk about your depression with friends or family. Maybe you've already tried therapy, and nothing seemed to work. Overtime, you start feeling bad for even talking about it. When it's shared, it can feel like you're causing people unneeded pain and suffering, so you keep it in and your isolate from others not because you don't love them or want to be around them but because you don't want to hurt them. If any of this resembles your experience, I want to start by acknowledging how hard this is and assure you it doesn't have to hurt this bad. For years now I've been helping client's shake their depression and rise above their "dark cloud." with a combination of inner frameworks and outer skills. Not only will I be giving you practical tools you can use today but we will also be working together to cultivate mindsets that lead to a happier more fulfilling life. Interested? Let's connect.

Depression can seem impossible to overcome, due to its dark and enveloping nature. However, turning within and healing the wounds that cause depression is an immensely liberating component of psycho-therapy.

Depression has many root causes, but is highly responsive to treatment. I work with people to identify what is at the root of their depressive symptoms and utilize Somatic, Ego-state and EMDR-related practices to address these root causes.
