Often my clients suffer from body image issues. This often causes anxiety, depression, social anxiety and confidence issues. It is difficult to show up confident to a date, at school or work when you are feeling self-conscious or not good about all or part of your body. I have had this sort of anxiety in the past and I have worked with many women and men to resolve body image issues. You can schedule a 30 minute complimentary session on my website to explore working together. I hope you will do this for yourself. I work in Boulder, CO and by zoom from anywhere.

Bodies are so deeply intelligent, and come in all different expressions. Sadly we live in a culture that teaches us to dishonor this nature, asking us to fit beauty in a box. This can cause so much trauma and distortion in how we learn to relate with our form. I help individuals break through this conditioning and difest what may be held around it, so that a natural appreciation and attunement with self can emerge.

Counselor/Therapist, LISW-S
Body image counseling is a specialized form of psychotherapy that focuses on assisting individuals in developing a healthier and more positive relationship with their bodies. Body image is how individuals perceive and feel about their physical appearance, such as size, shape, and overall attractiveness. A negative body image can result in emotional distress, low self-esteem, and the onset of eating disorders or other mental health issues. Body image therapy aims not to achieve a particular ideal body shape or size but to promote self-acceptance and a positive body image regardless of physical appearance. The therapeutic process is individualized, and the therapist collaborates with the client to address his or her particular requirements and objectives. If negative body image is significantly affecting your well-being or contributing to mental health issues, it is recommended that you seek the assistance of a qualified mental health professional with experience in body image therapy to begin the process of developing a healthier and more positive body image.

Denver Wellness Counseling

Licensed Professional Counselor, MA, LPC
Body image issues can stem from a variety of places - but most commonly from family messages (implicit or explicit), cultural messages (social media, TV, movies, magazines), sexual or relational abuse, bullying, or direct body shaming. Body image issues are extremely common, yet vary in severity from occasional negative self-talk to more severe experiences of eating disorders or depression. Here at Denver Wellness Counseling, treatment for body image and self-esteem, often includes EMDR on life experiences connected to the negative body image and/or received messages - such as experiences of bullying, critical statements from a family member, witnessing body shaming from media sources, or any direct negative belief system related to body image or a specific body part (ex. I hate my stomach). Therapy for body image issues will also typically include a resourcing component, which involves strengthening or building adaptive neural networks and messages regarding identity and body image, such as "I am valuable," "My body is strong," "My body has created life."
