Dr. Joyce Wagner
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Ph.D., LCSW-R
Anxiety comes in many forms and is very prevalent in our society. When working with clients who are dealing with generalized anxiety disorder or social anxiety disorder interventions from CBT or DBT may be employed. When working with clients who are dealing with one or more phobias we may work on reducing triggers as well as employing gentle exposure techniques (where appropriate). If an individual is dealing with OCD we may target a specific obsession and work to reduce it (as well as the consequent compulsion) by examining faulty beliefs or distorted feelings. If appropriate various supplements may be recommended; if medication is necessary I will work with the client’s prescriber.

Most people have experienced mild and brief feelings of anxiety before or during a stressful event such as public speaking, job interviews or going on a first date. Someone with an anxiety disorder experiences intense anxiety over a period of more than six months.
Anxiety disorders can include:
general feelings of exaggerated worry and tension over everyday things, spontaneous, out-of-the-blue panic attacks, Feeling excessively self-conscious in everyday social situations, Feeling extreme fear over being judged or scrutinized by others in social or performance situations, or experiencing an intense irrational fear of something, even though it poses little or no actual danger.
Using a variety of supports and tools, I have assisted people to reduce symptoms of anxiety, including muscle tension, restlessness, irritability and sleep difficulties.
