Strides in Psychotherapy
Psychologist, PSY.D.
Usually, when people think about psychotherapy, they imagine sitting on a couch in an office talking to a therapist about their problems. This style of therapy works just fine for many adults and adolescents. However, most younger children express themselves better through play than through words—for them, play is a primary method of communication. Even very bright and highly verbal children may find it difficult to talk about situations when strong feelings are involved. This is why they might shrug their shoulders, refuse to answer or say “I don’t know” when asked what is wrong. They might also “act out” or try to communicate to you through their behavior rather than through words, and sometimes these behaviors can get them into trouble at home or at school or be misunderstood by those around them. In addition, children often find it hard to sit still and talk for 45 minutes in a row, and they enjoy coming to therapy much more when play is a part of the equation.

I work with chilldren 8 and up. At Resolution Counseling Center, we take a family-centered approach that relies on a strong partnership with parents. We acknowledge you as the expert on your child and the one with the power to create a healthier home and school life for them. I'll help us start with a thorough assessment of what's going on, we'll create a customized plan for your child's wellness, then we'll work through the plan, using a combination of play therapy and child-oriented sessions and parent-only feedback and strategy sessions. I'll walk with your family until things are in a better place. Reach out anytime.

Hypnotherapist, MA
Are you a parent overwhelmed by raising your child? Are you struggling to remain calm and patient with your kids when situations are tough, leaving you feeling guilty and remorseful? Are you feeling frustrated and hopeless with your child, not knowing how to help them change certain behaviors they exhibit? Having a child can stimulates more feelings than any other life situation. In our children, we see parts of ourselves; in our parenting of them, we see our own histories of how we were raised, which can be painful and confusing at times. As a mother, I understand the complicated mix of emotions that is stimulated by being a parent. We can be pulled in different directions in our parenting, at times responding to our own childhood hurts. Becoming conscious of these patterns can open potential for new and more joyous ways of being with our children. I offer therapy to parents as well as to children and adolescents.
