As Depression can actually be expressed and caused by a variety of influences, it is important to perform a thorough assessment of what experiences you are having, and consider possible contributing factors, including possible medical causes and situational contributions such as stress, grief, and an individual's habitual way of viewing the world as threatening. I draw on a variety of therapies including cognitive approaches, physical activity, establishing relationships, and learning new coping strategies.

HUGH R STEWART III
Hypnotherapist, Ph.D., ACHt.
Like anxiety, I have been challenged with depression at various times in my life. Depression is living in the past with repressed anger at the self and not being able to be present. Once again, in Hypnotherapy when one is depressed we want to go back to another time in our past when we felt numb, depressed, hopeless, unresolved/incomplete grieving, etc. Usually, there is fear, shame, guilt, or loneliness draped over self anger preventing us from feeling the anger, grieving the loss, and moving on with sadness yet freedom. I've had many clients over the years, especially men who do not want to feel, go back to a time of loss and just shut down. When they can fully extinguish any feelings of guilt, fear, shame, and loneliness, and then fully experience the anger and corresponding sadness with their loss, they frequently sob and the water gates open to freedom and a lightness with themselves that had been lacking for so long.

Counselor/Therapist, Ed.D., M.A., BCBA-D, CAC, BC-TMH, CCTP, THP, Practitioner/ Specialist.
Depression is not only a by-product of what is going on or is not going on in someone's life, but can also become chemical in nature. Anxiety and depression go hand-in-hand. I have worked with many clients experiencing symptoms associated with Depression. Efforts to create lifestyle changes are made as well as to increase the "doses" of access to healthy self-care routines, including more time with preferred persons, as appropriate, activities, & events, while simultaneously lessening demands and avoiding other triggers often involved in treating depression as well as preventing it. Simple lifestyle changes, when employed consistently, overtime, can also help improve emotional states, moods, and lead to an overall healthier outlook on life. Enhancing states of mind, "mindsets", and ways of looking at the world and others can be achieved in many ways, including the inclusion of spiritual advisors and God.
