Polyvagal theory offers a fascinating lens through which to understand anxiety and its physiological underpinnings. According to this theory, our nervous system responds to stress and threat in three distinct ways: fight-or-flight, freeze, and the social engagement system. Anxiety often arises when our nervous system becomes dysregulated, leading to an overactivation of the fight-or-flight response or a shutdown into freeze mode. By exploring polyvagal theory in therapy, clients can gain insight into how their body responds to stress and learn techniques to regulate their nervous system. I also use EMDR therapy as a promising approach for alleviating anxiety, offering a unique avenue for processing distressing experiences and reducing associated symptoms. Through this process, individuals can experience a shift in how they perceive and respond to anxiety-provoking situations, fostering a sense of empowerment and control. Exposure therapy is another powerful tool in the arsenal against anxiety, offering a structured approach to facing fears and breaking free from their grip. Through gradual and systematic exposure to anxiety-provoking stimuli, clients can learn to confront their fears in a safe and controlled environment.

Everybody experiences anxiety or worry occasionally. Anxiety is a typical human response to demanding circumstances. However, those anxieties and fears remain persistent for those who suffer from anxiety disorders. They continue to experience anxiety, which may possibly worsen with time.
Anxiety disorders can seriously hinder a person's performance in social, academic, and occupational settings. Anxiety may also affect a person's relationships with friends and family. Thankfully, there are efficient anxiety treatments available. I've worked with adults with anxiety for several years, so I know we can discover solutions to ease your discomfort and start redefining what it means to be neurodiverse together.

Anxiety almost always lies in the aftermath of trauma. I work with people to identify and transform the thoughts and interpretations of situations that trigger anxiety and panic. Perhaps as important, my work also emphasizes the strengthening of someone's belief in themselves and their self-concept as a whole--since we cannot control the future, we must learn to be confident in our capacity to handle whatever might come.

All of us experience anxiety at some point in our lives. When anxiety becomes overwhelming or continues for an ongoing period of time, it can rob you of the life you used to love.
- It's the sleepless nights lying awake with worry.
- It's the sweating palms and racing heartbeat.
- It's the constant sense of dread or panic.
If you can relate with this, you’re not alone. Anxiety disorder is the most common mental health diagnosis, with over 40 million adults struggling with anxiety every year.
The good news? Anxiety therapy with Tempest Counseling is highly effective, so you don’t have to suffer needlessly.
Anxiety Therapy With Tempest Counseling
Anxiety happens when something unnecessarily triggers the body’s fight or flight response. This response is helpful if you’re walking in the jungle and a tiger leaps out at you. It’s not so helpful if you have to give a speech.
At Tempest, our approach to anxiety therapy starts with teaching clients how to interrupt this response. Clients learn to reset their brain through a combination of physical and mental relaxation exercises. Shaped by the neuroscience of anxiety, these exercises work to reduce symptoms to a more manageable level.
Once clients are better able to manage their symptoms, we focus on addressing the underlying cause: the body’s interpretation of certain natural life interactions as threatening. By challenging and overcoming these underlying beliefs, clients can retrain their brain and recover their ability to function at the height of their potential.
