Not all therapists understand what religious trauma is like, especially "lower-case 't' trauma" when you can't point to one single explanation for why church was harmful to you. A lot of religious trauma therapists are also Christian; this doesn't mean that they're bad at what they do, but you might feel the need to work with someone from a more agnostic or skeptical worldview.
