Registered Psychotherapist, Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology 1994
Self esteem refers to our sense of self; being aware of what our values are, and living accordingly. It includes acting with integrity and authenticity and taking responsibility for our lives despite what may have happened to us; if we have had difficult experiences it means being aware of the self-critical mind and replacing it with self compassion; ie being kind to yourself. You can refer to Kristen Neff’s work on self compassion or Chris Germer’s; there is also 5 minutes self compassion breaks on you tube you can refer to when things get hard; be kind, cut yourself some slack and take some chances in life; that’s important.

Lori Ralko
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, M.A., RSW
Recently, I was watching a video clip of Brene Brown, the renowned social worker and shame researcher. She talked about empathy as the antidote to shame. Whereas shame that is hidden is permitted to grow and thrive, shame that is shared with an understanding and empathic ear has the opportunity to transform. My hope is that if you're struggling with negative feelings about yourself, you'll be able to share your thoughts and feelings with me when you feel safe to do so.

Through inner-child work and re-parenting we will enhance self-esteem by both acknowledging your most vulnerable aspects (the child), and through protecting it through your inner parent. By healing oneself through oneself we will understand the true inner strength inside each of us which will enhance our self-esteem.

Registered Social Worker, MSW, RSW
Self-esteem can be rocked unsteady by anxiety and depression, or the start of a new job or relationship. Seeking reassurance from friends or family members may feel great in the short-term; and, if you're looking to build confidence for the long-term, that's where therapy comes in. The approaches that I use tend to help people to feel truer to themselves, including feeling more steady grounding and confidence. I would be glad to meet for a free consultation to answer any questions!
