Obsession. Compulsion. Addiction. These are first cousins, thoughts and actions that seem to happen all on their own volition. In my work, there is always something good about these 3 amigos - or they would not be here in your life. The work is to discover what that is, and like in the serentiy prayer: Deal with what you can change, accept what you can't , and know the difference. Sometimes it means changing a belief, sometimes a field or environmental condition... sometimes taking care of some emotions hiding in dark places.

Campbell Teen & Family Therapy, Inc.
Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, ACSW, APCC, AMFT
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is one of the more common mental illnesses of teens, with a prevalence of 1% to 3% according to the US National Library of Medicine. OCD consists of both obsessions, thoughts that won’t go away and compulsions, or behaviors that your teen does in order to prevent something bad from happening.
The media portrays OCD as being neat and clean, however that is not typically the presenting symptom in most teens with OCD.
It is more common for a teen with OCD to obsessively worry that something bad is going to happen and then do something they think will prevent the bad thing from happening. Ex. Are repeating numbers in a pattern, praying excessively, tapping fingers, re-reading assignments over and over, spending excessive time on homework due to rewriting or making it perfect, having to have things are certain way that doesn’t always make sense to their parents.
Our therapist are experts in treating teen OCD.
At Campbell Teen & Family Therapy, Inc. we are here to help. We use a combination of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and ERP (Exposure Response Prevention) to treat OCD. We help the teen through education and providing techniques to change the way they think and to realize that nothing bad will happen if they don’t do their compulsive routines. We support the parents through listening and education to help them know how to help their teen. Call now (408) 628-0532 for an assessment to see if OCD Treatment is right for your teen.
