Trauma and post-traumatic stress are common. may of us suffered adverse childhood events, not aways are we aware of it. Traumatic events, depending on your genetic and other "landscape" of your brain, can be permanently encoded in the amygdala in your brain. This is what causes the symptoms of PTSD. Research has revealed that when a traumatic event occurs, the emotional reaction can get stored in our bodies. When this happens we call it trauma. I have trained in many approaches to foster trauma recovery and will use one or more in session. I like to apply Somatic Experiencing to connect to and release trauma held in the body, and I use Internal Family Systems to identify and help parts of ourselves whose protective function is no longer necessary or optimal. Trauma work is lengthy and challenging, but I believe it is necessary if we want to be free of the control of our past.
