When we can learn to investigate anger, build acceptance and tolerance for uncomfortable feelings, and find ways to soothe ourselves, we can manage anger in ways that are supportive of our relationships and supportive of ourselves.

Anger is often a symptom of other issues. By uncovering the roots of your anger you can learn ways to stop it from dictating your behavior and interfering in your life. You can also learn to redirect, diffuse and let go of anger when it occurs to reduce its negative impact on your relationships, work and entire life.

Anger can take control and easily sneaks up without us realizing. I will work with you on strategies for coping as well as looking at the larger family dynamics (if relevant) to ensure the best support for everyone. Focusing on therapeutic relationship and building trust allows me to help support you while using a solution-focused lens.

To help people manage anger, one approach I often use to guide sessions is called Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (or CBT). It tends to be a shorter-term, situation-oriented, and present-focused approach, that for example helps people see the difference between thoughts and feelings, and in turn free themselves from unwanted patterns of behaviour. CBT is grounded in the belief that it is a person’s perception of events – rather than the events themselves – that determines how he or she will feel and act in response. CBT can often help with anger and many other issues. With CBT, you’ll be able to examine and question the thoughts that influence your emotions and behavior.
If you think you would benefit from a cognitive behavioural therapy approach for anger or other issues, please contact me today. I would be happy to speak with you about how I might be able to help.
