Dr Ian Anderson
Psychologist, Consultant Clinical Psychologist (HCPC registered), PhD, MSc, MSc, MSc, MA (Econ), BA (Econ) Hons
Sometimes we like doing things a lot; if this brings us pleasure, it is a positive thing in our lives. However, there are times when liking things a lot gets out of control-- be it gambling, ingesting substances, playing video games, or having sex. The term 'life balance' is almost tautological. To have a fulfilled life, it should be in balance. The good news is that sex is a behaviour, and psychologists are well versed in helping you change your behaviour. You can regain control of your choices.

Lisa Sanfilippo
Therapist, MA, MSc, UKCP, MBACP
Like any addiction, sex and sexuality can be used as ways to numb pain and distance ourselves from the scariness of true intimacy, especially when our earlier lives have been interrupted by traumas, disrupted attachments, and confusing relationships. When we heal our relationship to sex, sexuality and intimacy, we can gain greater trust, ability to be seen and understood in our relationships and to see and understand others. Working in tandem with a 12 step programme isn't for everyone, but can be a great help here if that appeals to you.
