Wendy Myers
Counselor/Therapist, LPC, NCC
Trauma does not have to haunt you for the rest of your life, you can heal. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) as well as EFT (Emotional-Freedom Technique) to treat PTSD and trauma alongside of traditional talk therapy.

Traumatic experiences can affect every part of our lives, including how we interact with others and how we interact with the world. It can be difficult to trust and feel safe. Together we can build a safe space for you to explore your triggers and emotions and learn how to manage them as they come up. By learning how to manage our thoughts and behaviors, we can make a change for the better.

PTSD is a complicated thing to treat and actually responds a lot better to behavioral techniques rather than "talk therapy." Trauma affects the body and nervous system and is much more complex than a lot of people realize. I can help clients prevent and handle flashbacks more easily as well as decrease PTSD symptoms overall by using a technique called TRE (Trauma Releasing Exercise). Often talking about the trauma makes it worse and the goal is not to relive the trauma. The goal is to help clients separate "past" from "present" so that the traumatic event feels "done and over." While we can't change the past, we can help clients learn to stay in the present instead of being re-traumatized by memories of past events. I can provide EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Re-processing) which is a non-invasive effect method that neutralizes the emotional "charge" attached to traumatic memories. It is best use for single traumatic events (rather than years of traumatic circumstances in childhood for example). EMDR and TRE can only be done in person due to the equipment I use.

I have substantial experience working with military veterans and trauma/PTSD. We can work together to decrease distressing symptoms, and explore how viewing the trauma from different perspectives can lead to improved functioning.

Psychologist, Psy.D.
As a psychologist specializing in the full range of trauma, I integrate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) with Internal Family Systems (IFS) to reinforce a sense of safety, control, and worthiness. I draw upon the principles of Interpersonal Neurobiology to understand how our nervous system is forced to adapt in extreme and overwhelming situations, and how those adaptations can be reinforced or blocked by our relationships, internal conflicts, and past experiences. In our work together, you can expect a high level of collaboration, deeply compassionate understanding, and an abundance of metaphors as we tailor the therapy process to your needs, strengths, and situation.
