A heightened arousal of the nervous system is due to repressed fear in the body that is attempting to keep the individual "safe" from an illusory threat. Repressed fear has it's roots back to the original trauma stored in the subconscious mind.

Trying to deal with anxiety can be exhausting and overwhelming. My approach focuses on providing relief through techniques that promote clear thinking, self-awareness, self-compassion and healthy coping mechanisms. Additionally, I guide you in uncovering unresolved issues or internal conflicts that may be at the root of your anxiety, paving the way for long-term emotional change.
My work focuses upon an holistic view of the individual and their history. This means our focus is less upon individual 'symptoms' and alleviation of these, and more upon what the 'symptom' might be communicating about imbalance in the individual. This leads on to an examination as to what needs to change at the level of body, mind, emotion and spirit.
I will work with you to help you understand the root causes of your stress, anxiety, and overthinking. We focus on: tuning into what you feel, so you can gain wisdom from those feelings; learning to sit with uncomfortable emotions and see they are a part of life; understand why you get stuck in your head; work to improve your coping strategies and manage your anxiety in a more helpful way. Part of this is learning to embrace who you are and not who you think you should be, so you can express yourself more clearly and honestly and find more balance in your life. Anxiety is insidious and exhausting. It robs us of our joy and ability to relax, so it's important to seek help if it is negatively impacting our lives.

A psychodynamic approach goes beyond the symptom and tries to understand how and why anxiety and fears have become dominant in a person's life. They may be an expression of deeper feelings of anger or disappointment that cannot be expressed and are best understood in relation to early childhood and personal history.
We get hooked by worries, fears, and stories that influence our choices and take us away from what matters. We can't escape anxious thoughts but we can achieve and live well with some space from distressing thoughts and feelings.
It's completely normal to experience feelings of anxiety and fear. They serve as warning signs to be cautious in certain situations or with certain people. However, when these feelings start interfering with your emotions, relationships, decision-making, or daily life, they can really take a toll on your self-esteem and overall sense of self. Please don't hesitate to contact me - together, we'll work through your concerns and find your way to feeling better.
