As a non-licensed practitioner, I cannot legally claim to work with anxiety (because it’s a diagnosable condition). In my experience, typical talk therapy only goes so far. Many people who suffer from anxiety are empaths or HSPs (highly sensitive people). If you are, that needs to be addressed first. And when clients grow up in a dysfunctional family environment that makes anxiety a way of life, it gets “wired” into the brain. I approach anxiety with this in mind, starting with nutritional support, and then help clients use tools that “rewire” the brain. There's no reason to go through life with more worry and stress than it already has!

Anxiety can be debilitating and scary in and of itself. An anxious person has a disregulated nervous system which needs to be addressed. While I am not an expert on specific phobias, I do know a lot of behavioral tools and techniques that can help manage anxiety in general. In more severe cases such as panic attacks or very debilitating anxiety, medication may be helpful to improve overall quality of life and day to day functioning. I don't prescribe medication but I can coordinate care with a doctor if needed. The techniques I use to mitigate symptoms of anxiety include specific breathing techniques and other body-centered tools that we can practice in session. Anxiety doesn't respond well to the client telling themself to "just calm down." Then it is up to the client to use these tools as much as possible on a daily basis in order to get the best results possible. Just like a medication, you can't just use a breathing technique one time and expect it to keep on working the next day. The nervous system is complicated and needs consistent soothing techniques in order to become more regulated. The more you practice the tools, the better they will work and the less anxious you will feel in general. When your nervous system is regulated, you are more resilient to stressful situations and are able to "bounce back" more quickly if you do get rattled.
