Collaborative Care Therapy

Registered Psychotherapist, Registered Social Workers and Psychotherapists
Depression is more than just a passing mood; it's a pervasive experience that can profoundly impact one's life, affecting emotions, thoughts, and daily functioning. At Collaborative Care Therapy, we address depression with an integrative, relational, and trauma-informed approach, recognizing its complex and multifaceted nature. Our therapy sessions aim to provide a deep understanding of your unique experience with depression. We explore various contributing factors, from biological and psychological to social and environmental influences. Recognizing that depression can often be rooted in or exacerbated by past traumas and unresolved emotional issues, we provide a supportive and safe space for you to explore these aspects. In treating depression, we utilize a combination of therapeutic techniques tailored to each individual's needs. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) plays a significant role in addressing negative thought patterns and behaviors that fuel depression. We also incorporate mindfulness practices to enhance present-moment awareness and emotional regulation, helping to alleviate symptoms of depression. Our relational approach fosters a therapeutic alliance based on empathy, understanding, and trust. This approach not only helps in alleviating the symptoms but also focuses on building resilience and empowering you to lead a fulfilling life. We work collaboratively to identify and reinforce your strengths, develop effective coping strategies, and foster a sense of hope and optimism. Through our virtual therapy sessions, we ensure that support is consistently accessible, providing a convenient and comfortable way to engage in therapy. Start your journey with Collaborative Care Therapy towards overcoming depression and rediscovering joy, purpose, and meaning in life.

One of my favourite analogies to explain the experience of depression is that depression is like a giant Yeti sitting on top of you all day long. It makes getting up, doing daily tasks, interacting with others, and even sitting extremely hard and tiring. As such, and for many other reasons, walking the path with depression can be profoundly challenging. At the same time, some research suggests that depression has an evolutionary function, namely, to slow us down and focus all our energy on solving the complex problem that started the depressive episode. In essence, it forces us to stop and reflect. In therapy, I support clients to explore their relationship with depression, develop tools to stay regulated when it shows up, get curious if it has an important message for them, and take action towards their goals (which may include responding to depression messages). In my personal and clinical experience, I have seen that depression can be an opportunity for life reflection and profound personal growth.

I have worked with many individuals who struggle with depression which can interfere with their daily life. However, I understand that depression can ultimately manifest differently within each client. Therefore, it is crucial for me to develop a therapeutic relationship to utilize a lens to explore what is underneath the sadness.

Depression can hit you suddenly or it can creep up slowly over time. It can range from generalized fatigue to feelings of deep sadness and loss of interest in life. Common symptoms include feeling unenthusiastic about life, low mood, low energy, irritability, lack of motivation and lack of concentration. When depression persists, it can make you feel that you should keep it to yourself and just try to get on with life. Maybe you are feeling alone because you are not sure if anyone would understand, and you are worried about burdening them. Depression is a normal healthy human emotion, and we all feel down sometimes, but if you are noticing that feelings of sadness, listlessness, and fatigue are not going away, it might be time to talk to someone. We offer a confidential, safe space to talk and explore these negative thoughts and feelings. Our pace is gentle, and we design our approach to address your individual needs. Please do not hesitate to reach out to learn more about how we can help you work through depression.

When the depression takes hold it's hard to think clearly. Any activity seems far to difficult so why not stay in bed. It doesn't have to been this way.

Life can feel overwhelming with lots of ups and downs. Depression can feel like a bottomless pit, I offer a foot-hold or hand out of the pit of depression – often a big part of this may be rediscovering or integrating self care.
