I’m a compassionate, grounded, and insightful therapist who cares deeply about helping people feel more like themselves again. Life can get overwhelming, and it’s easy to fall into patterns that leave us feeling stuck, stressed, or disconnected. I’m here to offer a calm, supportive place to sort things out and make sense of what you’re going through. I believe in helping people reconnect with their authentic self — the part of them that knows what they need, even when life gets noisy. My role is to walk alongside you as you unpack what’s been weighing you down and find healthier, more sustainable ways of coping. You don’t have to have everything figured out before reaching out; we can explore it together.

Treatment Approach

  • Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: When you work with me, you can expect a supportive, down-to-earth approach that puts you at the centre of the process. Our sessions are a space for you to talk openly about what’s been weighing on you, make sense of your experiences, and work toward meaningful change in a way that feels manageable and realistic. I understand that starting counselling can feel intimidating, especially if you’re overwhelmed or unsure what you need. We’ll take things one step at a time, focusing on what matters most to you. My aim is to help you feel safe, understood, and supported while we explore practical strategies to help you move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

At Laird Counselling Services, the focus is on creating a warm, welcoming environment where you can feel comfortable talking openly about your experiences. Many people come in feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or unsure how to break the cycle of constant stress. We start by slowing things down so you can catch your breath and understand what’s really going on beneath the surface. I work with individuals dealing with stress, sleep issues, persistent worrying, work-life balance challenges, concerns around food and body image, and difficulties with alcohol or substance use. Sessions are collaborative and straightforward. We look at what’s happening in your life, what’s contributing to the stress, and what practical changes might help you feel more grounded and supported. The approach is simple: meet you where you’re at, listen closely, and help you build tools that actually work for you.
