Parenting brings up everything unintegrated, un-dealt with in our selves will easily bring up a lot from our own childhood, and to be in the vulnerability of that, at the same time as caring for a child, depending on us, calls for gentleness and the release of the need to perform according to outer ideals and ideas. As parents, we more than anywhere else, need to okay with being imperfect, and to learn how to see, and meet with another being intimately in the midst of that. Children read us all the time, and if what we say don't match how we "walk the talk" they get confused - more than being and doing the right thing, our children need us to be authentic and honest, so they can know us and see us. To be a role model, doesn't mean to do the right thing all the time, but to not use power where we feel lack, and instead allow them to see your humanness

Being a parent to growing children who are continuously changing and developing can be challenging. It can lead to feelings of worry, anger, grief, depression and other mental health challenges. In therapy with me, parents can address their feelings, have a safe space to process them, better understand their experiences, and develop skills to best support themselves and their children. Whether you are a new parent, anxious or overwhelmed parent, or a parent navigating one of the many transitions in your family’s life, I aim to support your process. Together we can explore what might be getting in the way of your preferred way of being as a parent, or get specific about strategies to help with themes from behavioral issues to co-parenting. It takes a village to raise children, and you don’t have to have all the answers to do it on your own. My goal is to support you and your family through these important moments. Parenting is one of the hardest jobs in life. There is no manual for how to raise children/teens and we are bound to make mistakes. However, you can learn skills to help you attune to your child's feelings to help them feel safe. Children/teenagers can often feel confused about their emotions, which can lead to unhealthy thoughts and behaviours. Let us work together through play or expressive arts in understanding your child's/teen's needs for love and security.

Parenting is very hard. As a mother of two, grandmother of 8 and an aunt and grand-aunt to many as well as having studied parenting I know what works. Parenting with love and logic is my preferred method. Use necessary discipline combined with unwavering love.
