Online therapy is a convenient way to access therapy from the comfort of your home. Teletherapy allows for less time waiting for your appointment, eliminates the need to travel to a physical office, and reduces the possibility of exposure to COVID-19. Because individual needs vary, not everyone is a good fit for teletherapy. We can discuss whether your treatment goals and individual needs can be served through the use of an online therapy platform.

Online video counseling (through a professional, secure, encrypted, and easy-to-use provider)! Research and experience have shown that online therapy is not only AS effective as in-person but sometimes even more so given its convenience and your ability to feel comfortable wherever you are and not lose time traveling and finding new places; it also provides an option for clinicians to access services outside of their professional network. We have been providing online services with success for years and will continue to do so given it's ability to deliver excellent results.

You feel lonely. As a professional woman you seem to "have it all" from an outside perspective. Yet, you feel inadequate at making new friends and COVID has made it EXTREMELY hard to foster the friendships you need. Your relationships feel off balance. You want more support that's not there or you only support the other person. You're afraid to ask for help (but are trying to ask for more support because you can't take the loneliness anymore and will try anything). Yet, when you ask it seems to go on deaf ears, your requests are often ignored or your people are stressed out and overwhelmed themselves. You're left all alone and you feel like you're barely surviving. Finding no one to support you you're here hoping you can find anything to feel less alone. You want to have better relationships that meet both your and the other's needs. Yet, mostly you want YOUR needs to matter. You're sick and tired of doing everything you can to support and care for others with little or no return. When you look at your relationships the ones that feel the hardest are with your parents, siblings and partner (if you're in a relationship). If loneliness has caught you in its grasp and you struggle with close family relationships it's likely due to complex family dynamics that have left you as the care taker. You have always been expected to take care of your mom's feelings when all you've ever wanted was for her to clearly see who YOU are and take care of you. Even as an adult you take care of her feelings (you've gotten great at it with so many decades of experience). You feel frustrated that somehow no matter what you do you are judged as being wrong. You want to be able to be vulnerable with your many feelings without being judged. But with your mom that is fleeting. In therapy we can work together to sort out ALL your feelings. You can learn how to be tender towards your own feelings which in turn creates better external relationships. You do not have to run after validation and care from your mom (or insert family member name). WIth my support I can guide you to truly and deeply love yourself. You will learn how to set boundaries and share only what you want and let go of the burden of caring for her. You can find a peace and calmness that will help you endure the rest of the COVID pandemic. You can find a way to speak authentically without getting hurt. You can find BELONGING. The first step step to ending your loneliness is scheduling a free 20 min chat with me by going to my website and clicking the "schedule your free 20 min consultation" button. I look forward to speaking to you soon.

Durham, North Carolina therapist: Hope I. Hills, Ph.D., psychologist
Female

Hope I. Hills, Ph.D.

Psychologist, Licensed Psychologist in NC, Authorized PsyPact Practitioner in 40 states
Although I see clients in person if you live close to me in NC, I am "authorized" to see clients through Teletherapy by PsyPact, which lets me work with folks in all PsyPact states. I see individuals and couples (who sometimes aren't in the same place!) on my platform, and there is an "ease" that I don't think people expect. My core theory approach is Interpersonal Psychotherapy (combined with CBT, Gestalt, attention to lifestyle, spiritual life and career). I use testing to give us a "quickstart", namely the MBTI, FIRO/B, and Strong Interest Inventory. I also have a list of "handouts" (You wouldn't guess that I've been a professor in Counseling Psychology, would you?!) and a model called the Interpersonal Flexibility Circle that I've developed to more clearly see concretely how relationships really work. All of these methods support our work and are teletherapy friendly. All of them support both individual and relationship therapy (even your relationship with all ages of your SELF!) I use an approach that helps people to rather quickly recognize how their "stuck challenges" and defenses have been "safety maneuvers" for perhaps their whole lives. How enlightening and empowering!
