David yellen (He/Him)

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW
 therapist: David yellen,
In-Person in Brooklyn, NY 11217
I create a warm, friendly, and welcoming environment where we can explore what’s happening in your life now to collaborate on what might be possible for you in the future. Then, we will partner to understand what burdens you’ve taken on from your past—burdens that may have limited your belief systems or distorted your experience—to blaze new pathways towards your release from pain and entry into freedom and joy. I specialize in working with clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. However, my approach is not a one size fits all formula. I tailor my work to the individual and their specific needs.

Client Focus

Age Specialty: Adult, Teen, Young Adult
Demographic Expertise: Men, Women clients.

Treatment Approach

  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Gestalt Therapy Encourages awareness of thoughts, feelings, and actions in the present moment. It helps people integrate different parts of themselves for wholeness.
  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy Based on decades of research, this method gives couples tools to improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen intimacy.
  • Imago Relationship Therapy Helps couples understand how childhood experiences influence adult relationships. It teaches communication techniques to deepen connection.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) A short-term approach focused on improving relationships and social support. It is often used for depression and grief.
  • Ketamine-Assisted Therapy Combines low doses of ketamine with psychotherapy to treat depression, trauma, and anxiety. It can provide relief when other methods haven’t worked.
  • Psychosocial Therapy Looks at how social and environmental factors affect psychological health. It emphasizes relationships, community, and resilience.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.

I am also trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy which is a powerful and transformative evidence-based model of psychotherapy. IFS holds the belief that we are all multiple and made up of different parts, all the while being contained and held by an attuned and boundless Self. Although different parts play different roles in our lives, we can gain a deeper understanding and acceptance of ourselves by getting to know them from the vantage point of this deeply wise, compassionate, and courageous innate Self. You are, and always will be, your greatest teacher. I consider my role as merely a helpful facilitator along the way.
