Welcome to Goblin Mode Therapy! My name is Thomas and I am a licensed clinical psychologist based in Minnesota. I identify as a cishet white male who has dedicated himself to helping those with serious mental illness find purpose and meaning. With my ties to the gaming/geek world, I have come to identify with Goblins. On the surface they can be seen as simply violent, impulsive and often villainous creatures. However, Goblins are actually emotional beings who find solace and comfort in belonging to a group. They will fiercely protect their community and work together for a common purpose.
My goal for therapy is to be inclusive and to offer a space to grow and heal. I specialize in working with people who experience psychosis, mania, substance use concerns, as well as more general navigation of change and transitions in life. I come from a background in Recovery Oriented Mental Health Care which focuses less on symptoms and more on identifying passions, goals, and engagement in chosen communities. Hope is the foundation of recovery and something that I aim to provide to everyone I work with. I want to work with you towards wellness.
I was drawn to this work after seeing the stigma associated with Mental Health. Starting in my undergrad years I explored the representations of Mental Illness in media, and saw the direct impact that stigma has on a person's recovery journey. I have dedicated myself to the basic concept that Recovery is Possible and it is also a Journey and not a destination.
Therapy with me is collaborative, goal focused, non-stigmatizing, with an emphasis on facing fears as well as symptoms. I believe everyone deserves to live a value driven life and should have the freedom to explore what that means.
