Therapist, LMSW
 therapist: Allison Cava,
Online in Georgia (Online Only)
With over 16 years of experience across diverse settings and populations, I bring a depth of perspective that allows me to meet people where they are. I often describe my work as “people service” — a genuine commitment to connecting with others in meaningful, human ways. As a therapist, I am committed to supporting emerging adults and adults navigating depression, anxiety, grief and loss, life transitions, trauma, self-image concerns, and personal growth. I work with individuals who feel stuck in repetitive or unhelpful thought patterns, overwhelmed by ongoing stress, or searching for clarity in the midst of major life adjustments. I provide particular support for those facing systemic challenges or significant transitions, helping clients strengthen their emotional, physical, and relational well-being in ways that feel sustainable and grounded. I am also deeply interested in exploring questions of life purpose and meaning — understanding how insight and clarity can guide your decisions, relationships, and overall direction.

Treatment Approach

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) An evidence-based treatment for PTSD that teaches clients to reframe unhelpful thoughts about trauma. It helps reduce guilt, shame, and fear.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) A short-term approach focused on improving relationships and social support. It is often used for depression and grief.
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Combines mindfulness practices with CBT to prevent depression relapse. It helps people notice thoughts without judgment and respond more calmly.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
  • Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
  • Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
  • Self Psychology Explores the development of self-esteem and identity. It emphasizes the importance of empathy in healing.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
Approach Description: My therapeutic approach has a foundation in insight-oriented therapy, where we develop deeper connections between your past experiences, present emotional patterns, personal meaning, and your sense of identity and purpose in the world. Alongside this foundation, I incorporate supportive therapy, systems therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help you strengthen coping tools, understand relational dynamics, and shift unhelpful thinking patterns. At my core, I am innately humanistic in how I approach people and the therapeutic relationship, prioritizing strong rapport and relational connection because meaningful growth happens within a safe, trusting partnership. I often incorporate mindfulness practices such as breathing, meditation, reflection, and dream exploration to support grounding and self-awareness. I have personally practiced meditation for over 15 years and integrate it when clients are open to it. Therapy with me is collaborative and flexible — whether you’re seeking structured, goal-focused work or a more open, exploratory space — and I often include reflective practices outside of sessions to help sustain growth.
