Treatment Approach

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Combines mindfulness practices with CBT to prevent depression relapse. It helps people notice thoughts without judgment and respond more calmly.
Approach Description: My approach blends Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to create clear, practical change. CBT helps you map the link between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, then replace harsh or all-or-nothing thinking with balanced, helpful beliefs. We pair this with targeted actions—behavioral activation, exposure and response prevention when needed—to reduce avoidance and build confidence. DBT adds concrete skills for emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness so you can ride out urges, calm anxious spirals, and communicate needs without guilt. Together we identify patterns that keep you stuck—perfectionism, body checking, worry loops, people-pleasing—and set weekly, doable steps. Sessions are structured, compassionate, and skill-focused, with homework you can use right away. This evidence-based approach supports adolescents and adults managing anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and body image concerns through secure online therapy.

Calm Blue Waters Counseling, Practice Description
You want relief that lasts, not quick fixes. If anxiety, depression, perfectionism, or body image worries are running the show, daily life can feel heavy. Maybe you overthink every decision, wake up with dread, or avoid mirrors and social plans. Work or school suffers, relationships feel tense, sleep is off, and coping looks like scrolling, restricting, bingeing, or numbing. You are not broken and you do not have to figure this out alone. With skilled, evidence based therapy, change is possible and sustainable. I provide online counseling for adolescents and adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image concerns. My style is warm, direct, and collaborative. Together we will slow the mental noise, name what keeps you stuck, and build practical tools that help you feel steady and in control again. I use cognitive behavioral therapy as the backbone of treatment and integrate mindfulness, DBT skills, self compassion practices, exposure and response strategies, and values based action so you have multiple ways to regulate emotions and move toward the life you want. CBT helps us map the cycle between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. You will learn how to catch all or nothing thinking, catastrophizing, comparison, and harsh self talk, then replace them with flexible, helpful thoughts that reduce anxiety and lift mood. For eating and body image work, we focus on regular nourishment, body neutrality, and coping skills that do not rely on food control. We will address triggers like mirrors, photos, clothes, social events, and weigh ins and practice skills such as urge surfing, distress tolerance, grounding, and compassionate body respect. If panic, OCD tendencies, or avoidance are part of your story, we add stepwise exposures so confidence grows session by session. What sessions look like: we begin with clear goals and a simple plan. Each meeting includes a brief check in, skill practice tailored to your week, and a take away to apply in real life. You will leave knowing exactly what to work on between sessions and how to track progress. Typical targets include worry reduction, mood activation, sleep routines, meal structure, social and school or work stress, relationship communication, and healthy boundaries. We celebrate wins, troubleshoot barriers, and adjust the plan as your needs evolve. Common results my clients report include fewer anxious spirals, more balanced thinking, less time spent body checking, increased energy and motivation, improved appetite cues, more stable moods, and stronger confidence in handling hard days. Parents and partners often notice calmer communication and steadier follow through at home, school, and work. We measure change using simple checklists and brief questionnaires so you can see your growth. Access matters. Online therapy is private, secure, and flexible, with evening options that fit full schedules, busy families, and long commutes. If you are recovering from an eating disorder, managing perfectionism, navigating a life transition, or feeling burned out, telehealth removes the travel barrier and helps you build consistency. I coordinate care with physicians, psychiatrists, and dietitians as needed so your support team is aligned. I am licensed to serve clients via telehealth in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, and Vermont. If you live in one of these states and want a therapist who combines compassion with clear, actionable tools, you are in the right place. You bring your lived experience; I bring a structured, research based framework; together we create change that lasts. Next steps are simple. Reach out to schedule a brief consultation to see if we are a good fit. We will clarify your goals, outline an initial roadmap, and set a first session. Whether your focus is anxiety, depression, eating or body image struggles, stress, or life transitions, we will build skills that work in the real world. You deserve a life with more ease, purpose, and self respect. Let’s begin.
