Elizabeth Starnes (She/Her)

Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC-S, ATR-BC, REAT
 therapist: Elizabeth Starnes,
Texas (Online Only)
Reaching out for support often means something in your life feels too heavy to carry alone. I offer a space that moves at your pace—no pressure, no forced timelines. You choose the direction of our work, and I walk beside you with curiosity, compassion, and care. As a trauma-informed therapist, I’m here to help you understand patterns shaped by past experiences—especially the ones that still echo today in how you see yourself, relate to others, or feel in your own body. We gently explore those stories and beliefs, not to force change, but to make space for healing, clarity, and self-trust. Clients often describe me as down-to-earth, steady, and real. I specialize in trauma and PTSD, anxiety, grief, life transitions, and the self-doubt that often comes with surviving hard things. It’s my greatest privilege to witness clients rediscover their voice, their boundaries, and their strength.

Treatment Approach

  • Adlerian Therapy Focuses on understanding a person’s sense of belonging and purpose. It helps people overcome feelings of inferiority and create healthier relationships.
  • Art Therapy Uses creative activities like drawing, painting, or sculpture as a way to express emotions. It is especially helpful when words are hard to find.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: My approach is client-centered, which means you lead the way. I don’t set the agenda—you decide what feels safe and important to explore. The only structured exception is Cognitive Processing Therapy, a 12-session evidence-based protocol for treating trauma. This is always discussed and agreed upon in advance; nothing is ever forced. Outside of formal trauma work, I integrate guided reflection with expressive arts to support both verbal and nonverbal processing. Clients often find that creative expression—like visual journaling—helps access insight and emotion in a way words sometimes can’t. Together, we create space for your voice, your pace, and your process.

Elizabeth Starnes Practice Description
My therapy practice is dedicated to supporting women in healing, gaining insight, and finding relief from the pressures that so often leave us feeling exhausted and not enough. We live in a culture that demands perfection—social media, family roles, body image, and success standards all contribute to anxiety, self-doubt, and disconnection. But where is the space to simply be? To ask: What do I want? What do I need? Part of the human experience is creating stories to make sense of our past. But when those stories are shaped by trauma, they often become distorted—fueling shame, fear, and avoidance. We try to stay safe by controlling, withdrawing, or over-functioning, yet this only deepens the pain. You’re not alone if you feel stuck in cycles of self-blame or anxiety. These are survival strategies—and they make sense given what you’ve been through. My role is to provide a space that feels safe and steady. I don’t set the agenda—you do. Together, we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you. I’ll listen for patterns, gently reflect what I notice, and help you challenge stories that no longer serve you. My clients often describe me as warm, real, and empowering. I integrate cognitive-based therapies (CBT and Cognitive Processing Therapy) with Expressive Arts Therapy. Visual journaling and other creative techniques allow clients to explore feelings and insights that are hard to reach with words alone. No artistic skill is required—just a willingness to try. I specialize in trauma and PTSD, anxiety, self-esteem, grief, and life transitions. Outside of therapy, I enjoy nature, gardening, music, and spending time with my adult children and grandsons. If you're ready to explore what healing might look like for you, I’d love to connect. Reach out for a free 15-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit.
