My therapy practice offers a grounded, relational space where you can slow down, feel met, and work at a pace that respects your nervous system and your story. I combine Gestalt and somatic approaches to help you build awareness, process difficult experiences, and strengthen your sense of agency in everyday life. Clients often reach out when they feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected and want support that is practical and deeply human. Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Brainspotting A therapy that uses eye positions to access and process unresolved trauma. It helps release emotional and physical pain held in the body.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Gestalt Therapy Encourages awareness of thoughts, feelings, and actions in the present moment. It helps people integrate different parts of themselves for wholeness.
Approach Description: Together, we explore identity, process trauma, strengthen boundaries, and develop new ways of relating to yourself and others, reconnecting with parts of yourself that have been silenced or hidden.

Mathew Bergan Practice Description
You are the expert in your life, my role is to walk alongside you with curiosity, care, and skill. I offer online therapy that is warm, collaborative, and grounded in Gestalt and somatic practice, with a focus on supporting gay and straight men, and LGBTQIA+ communities. My work supports people navigating identity, belonging, trauma, neurodivergence, grief, and relationship challenges, as well as experiences of shame, anxiety, depression, and emotional overwhelm. I offer you a safe space to explore who you are, what you carry, and how you want to live. I pay attention to both emotional and embodied experience. Many of us hold stress and trauma in the body as well as the mind. Sessions may include gentle awareness of sensation, breath, and nervous system patterns alongside reflective conversation, while building practical tools for regulation. My approach is trauma-informed and guided by your readiness. I have particular experience supporting queer and gender diverse clients navigating minority stress, family estrangement, chosen family, and the impact of social marginalisation. I also work with neurodivergent clients seeking spaces that respect difference rather than pathologize it.
