Dealing with change in relationships can be navigated more successfully with better awareness and understanding of what is happening for the other and the couple. Relationship counselling can be beneficial to couples who are looking to strengthen their emotional connection, in all stages of their relationship. At times its helpful to work with couples who are divorcing or separating. The objective in these situations is to facilitate a separation that allows for healing and individual emotional repair. Relational trauma is very real and often unrecognised. Working in session to understand what and how impacts are reflected for individuals and couples is highly beneficial to the development of the self and assists with building higher levels of psychological resilience. Working together in session on how past experiences and learned behaviour come together to influence present-day thinking and the effect that has on future life goals and expectations is important to moving ahead with a better life experience. Whatever approach is best suited for the patient is framed around specific needs and a treatment plan is built in collaboration with the individual or couple.
