Treatment Approach
- Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
- Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
- Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
- Integrative Therapy Combines techniques from multiple approaches into a customized plan. It adapts to each client’s unique situation and needs.
- Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
- Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) A short-term approach focused on improving relationships and social support. It is often used for depression and grief.
- Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Combines mindfulness practices with CBT to prevent depression relapse. It helps people notice thoughts without judgment and respond more calmly.
- Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
- Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) Helps clients challenge and replace irrational beliefs. It is an action-oriented approach for lasting change.
- Schema Therapy Identifies deep-rooted negative patterns formed in childhood. It combines CBT, attachment theory, and experiential methods for change.
- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
Approach Description: How I work with you - Working collaboratively not only brings a level of independence but a deep sense of fulfillment, purpose, and resilience. The therapeutic alliance is intended to provide a safe place for you to be heard, understood and to achieve emotional balance and wellbeing.
My approach is authentic, curious, and objective. I’m upfront, believing that it is important for us both to be able to speak our truth, in a respectful and gentle way. My role, as your therapist, is to challenge you to challenge yourself and mentor you to successfully navigate towards your goals. I’m open, honest and transparent. I see therapy as a two-way street; it’s like a therapeutic dance that we engage in together. Therapy is about connecting with oneself while being safely guided by another. Therapy represents the push-pull of connection, trust, and attunement which supports you to more fully engage in your aspirations and goals for moving forward with your life.

I’m based in Queensland’s Southeast and worked thru covid, in both Cairns and Brisbane, starting Artemis Psychology Services in early 2020. Although I predominately work online, I see clients in person and travel to Cairns regularly. I prefer a casual and friendly approach to help you feel as comfortable as possible. Cynthia's approach to working with you is centered around providing: Holistic support focused on understanding your unique life challenges. Collaborative care combining EMDR and evidence-based talk therapies. Resilience building to enhance self-knowledge, personal strengths, and adaptability. Core values built on transparency, openness, and honesty for mutual trust.
Artemis Psychology Services four core values mirror an empowerment model: authenticity/genuineness; purposefulness/courage, curiosity/trauma-informed & positive outcomes/hope to guide our practice. Over the last 15 years, I have provided trauma-informed support to clients throughout Queensland with complex and developmental trauma, PTSD, substance use issues, depression and anxiety, grief and loss, personality and dissociative disorders, and eating, somatic and sleep disorders. I have worked with people from all walks of life, previously working in gold mining in WA and have lived experience of trauma & ADHD, so your story will be heard and gently held, non- judgementally.
In addition to EMDR, I am trained and experienced in a range of other therapeutic modalities, including:
• MI (Motivational Interviewing)
• DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy)
• CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
• ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy)
