As an AuDHD man with learning disabilities, I had an experience growing up that is all too familiar within the neurodivergent community. Often feeling misunderstood and out of place, I was faced with indifference, ignorance, neglect, gaslighting, shame, and the assumption that I could navigate a world that was not built for me without the support I so badly needed. Lonely, adrift, and struggling to find a sense of belonging, I was cast aside and left to fend for myself. After a series of negative experiences with mental health resources and support, I found my way to a couples therapist in 2014. There, I discovered Gestalt therapy while experiencing the gifts of love, kindness, safety, acceptance, curiosity, and flow. Through embodied awareness and responding, rather than reacting, I came to trust my innate power, humanity, body, and the certainty of the earth. In 2019, I began studying Gestalt therapy following the unexpected end of my marriage. Amidst despair, sorrow, sadness, loneliness, and grief, I discovered a vehicle that challenged me in all domains of existence. Here, I grieved, faced impermanence, and gradually co-created the scaffolding from which I could emerge in a more embodied way as an AuDHD man, human being, and partner. As I found life again, I became increasingly aware of the profound suffering experienced by neurodivergent people. Endless demands that we grind away in search of acceptance, love, and certainty left us adrift, performing, deadened, and increasingly separate in an ableist world. Through Gestalt therapy, I continued to experience connectedness, belonging, compassion, the wonder of curiosity, and love itself. I finally found spontaneity, playfulness, and excitement in relation to myself, other people, and even existence itself. With this mission, I founded Welcome Home Healing in 2023. Since then, I have had the honor of joining people as they awaken, live, and emerge into their humanity within the unfolding now.

Peter Linden Practice Description
Welcome Home Healing offers individual, couples, and group Gestalt psychotherapy for neurodivergent adults (25+), including autistic, ADHD, and AuDHD adults, people with learning disabilities, and other neurodivergent ways of being in the world. Many neurodivergent adults have spent years learning—implicitly and explicitly—that belonging required relinquishing their agency, humanity, innate power, worth, dignity, and authentic selves. In return, they were often offered little more than crumbs, tokenistic acceptance, and, at best, a false sense of belonging. Gestalt psychotherapy offers a different possibility—one where your humanity, body, and curiosity become a guide to what is needed, longed for, and continuously created in the unfolding now. Rather than asking you to become more malleable, palatable, or tolerable to an ableist society, we become curious about how you experience existence in relation to the environment, other people, and the earth. Together, we notice what emerges between us, honoring what has been silenced, crushed, hidden, abandoned, protected, left fallow, deadened, or unfinished. Through embodied awareness, the mind no longer exists separately, endlessly seeking meaning without direction. Instead, the body can feel, sense, process, and respond to whatever is living in the now, organically moving you into life itself. Here, therapy is not about becoming someone else through performance. It is about awakening and flowing into who you have been all this time. Human.
