Katherine Roberts (She/Her)

Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT-A
 therapist: Katherine Roberts,
Online in Texas (Online Only)
What sets my practice apart is the personalized blend of approaches I bring into the room: Emotionally Focused Therapy for the deep, relational work, and Trust-Based Relational Intervention for understanding how past experiences shape trust and connection today. I don't just draw on training for this but also my background in crisis counseling and adoption work, combined with personal experiences with mental health challenges and difficult relationship patterns, means I understand both the clinical picture and the everyday reality of trying to hold things together. If you're feeling stuck in a relationship, in parenting moments, generally feel disconnected, or feel you live in a state of chaos, I want you to know you don't have to figure it out alone.

Treatment Approach

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Experiential Therapy Involves hands-on activities to bring emotions into the present moment. It helps clients process feelings more deeply than through conversation alone.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
Approach Description: My approach is relational and attachment-based, drawing on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) to help clients understand the patterns keeping them stuck and build the safety needed for real change. I believe most distress makes sense once you see it through the lens of connection i.e. how safe we feel with the people closest to us. This shapes how we think, feel, and behave. Rather than offering quick fixes, I work collaboratively, with you, to help you move from chaos and disconnection toward clarity, trust, and genuine repair whether that be in individual sessions, couples sessions, or family sessions.

Katherine Roberts Practice Description
Many people come to therapy feeling like life has become chaotic. Not because of one catastrophic event, but because the relationships meant to feel like a soft place to land instead feel uncertain, tense, or distant. A partner who feels more like a roommate. A child whose behavior seems to come out of nowhere. A quiet sense of going through the motions without really feeling connected. If that's familiar, there's a reason it feels this way. My work is grounded in attachment theory: our fundamental need to feel safe and connected to the people closest to us. When that safety gets disrupted, through one rupture or years of small misses, we don't just feel sad or frustrated; we get reactive, shut down, or stuck in patterns that confuse even us. I use blend Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) to help couples and families slow down, see the cycles they're caught in, and start responding to the needs behind the behavior. For families shaped by early relational trauma, adoption, or attachment disruptions, I draw heavily on Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), which understands behavior as communication — especially in kids whose nervous systems learned early on that the world wasn't safe. My background in crisis counseling and adoption work, plus my own experience as a parent/wife/friend etc., gives me a real, lived sense of what that chaos feels like from the inside. I don't offer a quick fix. I offer a steady, collaborative process through which we will work to identify the patterns keeping you or your family stuck, understand the needs underneath them, and build the kind of safety that makes real repair possible.
