If you are feeling stuck in the same emotional patterns, struggling to adjust to changing circumstances, or finding yourself overwhelmed by the demands of life, therapy can be a place to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and begin to make meaningful changes. I'm Dr. Megan Noren, a licensed clinical psychologist and the owner of Maitri Therapy Services. My approach is grounded in compassion, curiosity, and the belief that understanding our emotions can help us develop a deeper sense of self and create healthier relationships. I strive to provide a warm, supportive space where you can feel understood without judgment and explore the experiences that have shaped who you are. I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship concerns, life transitions, and the mental load that can come with balancing competing demands. I have a particular interest in maternal mental health, including perinatal depression and anxiety and the emotional and identity shifts that accompany parenthood. I also welcome clients exploring questions of identity, self-worth, boundaries, and connection. In our work together, we'll explore the emotions and patterns that may be keeping you stuck, make sense of painful experiences, and identify what you need to feel more grounded and connected. I draw primarily from Emotion-Focused Therapy, with additional approaches tailored to your needs and goals. My hope is to help you develop greater self-compassion, strengthen your relationships, and build the confidence to live in a way that feels more aligned with your values. Maitri is a Sanskrit word associated with loving-kindness and benevolence. These ideas reflect the heart of my practice: creating space for connection, trust, courage, and compassion as you work toward healing and growth. You don't have to navigate everything on your own. I invite you to reach out for a free 15-minute consultation so we can connect, discuss what brings you to therapy, and explore whether working together feels like a good fit.

Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Emotion-Focused Therapy Emotion-focused therapy supports emotional awareness and expression, helping individuals understand underlying feelings, transform unhelpful emotional patterns, and develop healthier responses to personal and relationship challenges.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Feminist Therapy Addresses how gender roles, power, and social inequality affect mental health. It empowers clients to challenge limiting beliefs and systems.
  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy Based on decades of research, this method gives couples tools to improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen intimacy.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
Approach Description: My therapeutic approach is primarily humanistic, with a strong focus on Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). I believe emotions provide important information about our needs, experiences, and relationships. Rather than simply trying to manage or eliminate difficult feelings, we work to understand them, explore where they come from, and develop new ways of responding that support healing and growth. Our work may include exploring how early experiences and attachment patterns influence current relationships, identifying emotional responses that no longer serve you, processing painful experiences, and strengthening your ability to recognize and communicate your needs. As we develop a clearer understanding of these patterns, you can begin to establish healthier boundaries, build self-compassion, and make choices that align more closely with your values. I also integrate elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and other models when helpful. These approaches can support practical changes in thought patterns and behaviors, clarify personal values, and deepen our understanding of relationship dynamics. My approach is collaborative and individualized as I tailor our work to your experiences, strengths, and goals rather than assuming one method fits everyone. Above all, I aim to offer a warm, affirming, and supportive therapeutic relationship where you can feel safe enough to be curious about yourself, work through difficult emotions, and move toward meaningful, lasting change.
