Nathan Ely, LMFT

Marriage and Family Therapist, MDiv, LMFT
 therapist: Nathan Ely, LMFT,
Online in California
I first got my start in ministry working as a worship leader and musician, and later in the private and public schools as a teacher. These experiences opened my eyes to the need for people of all ages to find healing through difficult experiences. My therapy career began in the private practice setting and then I worked at a clinic as a child and family therapist for several years before starting my own practice. My specialization and training is in working with couples, kids and families and individuals. Currently, I'm an EMDR certified therapist which is one of the best evidence based trauma recovery models for those wanting to move through painful experiences and find healing from trauma. My goal is to walk with you on the healing journey and help you understand how to have a healthier relationship with yourself and others.

Treatment Approach

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy Based on decades of research, this method gives couples tools to improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen intimacy.
  • Intersubjective Therapy Explores the shared emotional experience between therapist and client. It emphasizes connection and mutual understanding.
  • Play Therapy Uses toys, games, and creative play to help children express emotions. It is especially useful when children can’t fully verbalize their feelings.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
Approach Description: I have a holistic approach to treatment which involves healing the body, mind and soul. My hope is to help you find what you need to thrive and guide you on the path toward recovery.

Nathan Ely, LMFT Practice Description
In life, it is difficult to walk alone in our pain. As a therapist, I believe that I am the emotional home for the pain and that healing is in the relationship we build as we walk together. I have a holistic approach to therapy which involves integrating the body, mind and soul on the path to recovery. My goal is to give you the tools you need not just to survive but to thrive. I believe that we all have what we need to live life to the fullest, we sometimes need help accessing our potential. Through our work together, I want to help you fulfill your goals and feel empowered as you move through the journey of life. With couples I have training in Gottman therapy and EFT (Emotion Focused Therapy) which is focused on breaking the cycles of dysfunction and improving empathy and communication in relationships. For individuals struggling with anxiety, depression and trauma recovery, I specialize in EMDR therapy which is one of the most effective models for trauma recovery. You are not alone and there is always hope. Looking forward to connecting with you and guiding you on the path toward restoration, healing and wholeness.
