I specialize in working with clients from the ages of 14 to adulthood, who are inquisitive, self-aware, and deeply motivated to understand themselves better, improve their relationships, move into a place of self-respect/love, and develop adaptive ways of coping, communicating, and problem-solving. I have worked for many years with children, teens, adults, and families dealing with trauma and change and searching for authenticity, often in a world that values the superficial. Therapy is a process of seeking meaning, managing change, letting go of what no longer makes sense for who we are and what we want, healing, and growing. I am most suited to help clients dealing with loss, prior childhood trauma, depression, anxiety, ADHD, identity (in all its manifestations), divorce, self-esteem, grief, and emotional regulation. The goals are different for everyone, yet I believe that we all want to feel more balanced, more joyful, and more healthfully connected with others. As a psychologist with 25 years of post-doctoral experience, I’ve been exposed to various modalities, settings, and clients dealing with differing issues, life changes, and developmental expectations. I’ve also found that my professional practice has evolved as I’ve matured, raised children, and survived losses and challenges. We are in this together.

Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Feminist Therapy Addresses how gender roles, power, and social inequality affect mental health. It empowers clients to challenge limiting beliefs and systems.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.

Michelle Bloom, PsyD Practice Description
I was trained from a psychodynamic perspective and believe that who we become is deeply rooted in our biology as well as the systems from which we were raised, though I also strongly believe that with insight and self-exploration, we can create different neural pathways from which to engage with ourselves and others. Relationships are central to all of our lives, with self, family, friends, coworkers, relatives, partners, and spouses and provide us the fuel to help power a life worth living. We are all searching, I find, for the relationships and jobs or careers that are most suited to us becoming our best self, yet we often struggle with patterns from the past that can trip us up, such as family dysfunction, family addiction, low self-esteem, enabling, tolerating less than we feel we deserve, anxiety, depression, impulsivity, abuse, difficulty advocating for ourself, avoidance of conflict, and prior trauma -- all of which can undermine our health, contentment, and well-being. Therapy is a powerful means through which we can work through these complexities and cultivate happiness on the other side. I respect that it takes courage to get there and trust to build a connection with a therapist who listens to you, gently challenges your story and perceptions, and helps you build your coping skills so that you are better able to foster self-love, forgiveness, and health.
